We have put on a mask, afraid of what people might say if they saw our true self, we hide what we don’t like. We have put on a mask, thinking this is what people think I need to be, we hide and pretend we are somebody else that God did not design us to be. We have put on a mask and we hide and cover what we don’t want people to see, our sin. We hide and pretend that with this mask it is not there and I don’t have to deal with it! I think it is about time we take off the masks, and become the men and women of God that we are designed, created, meant to be.

I think we hide because of alot of reasons the 3 you stated and than I believe we forget that when we hide behind those masks we pretend or have such denial that we forget that the only one we need to have concern about is God, and his opinion of our lives and how we speak, react, live and interact within not only the body of Christ but those that do not know him personally yet. We sometimes forget that he sees are coming and going he knows our thoughts and desires and angry sides and the private things that we think. We hide and we place God on that same shelf. We need to remember that we need to not be ashamed of human opinion whether it is our wife, husband, children, coworkers, neighbors and even our pastors. The only opinion that counts is the one Jesus Christ has of us. Thank God he gives us his everlasting unsurpassing grace and mercy and most of all his love when we forget. Praise God that we have the throne to pour our cares and secrets and sinful nature so that we can learn to walk stronger and become a little more Christ like and continue to shred those masks that we have learned to wear so comfortably.
Kari Ann, very good point you bring up about not being ashamed and about whose opinion matters. That is why it is so important for us to stay in tune with God, to spend time in his word. It will give us the guidance and direction we need, so that we can have the confidence and assurance of who we are. Masks only cover, they do not solve. When we face items or issues that we know we need to change and work on, because of the Holy Spirit prompting, we can have confidence that God will give us the strength to overcome and conquer these sins and shortcomings.
